In a stunning turn of events, Timothee Chalamet has surpassed Leonardo DiCaprio to become the leading contender for the Best Actor Oscar. This shift comes after Chalamet clinched the Best Actor award at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards for his performance in “Marty Supreme,” directed by Josh Safdie.

Initially, DiCaprio, at 51, was the front-runner to snag the prestigious accolade, but Chalamet’s recent win has made him the favorite for the upcoming Academy Awards in March, according to the regulated exchange and prediction market Kalshi.

Despite Chalamet’s rising odds, DiCaprio’s film “One Battle After Another,” directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, emerged victorious at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, on Sunday night. The film not only bested Chalamet’s project but also outperformed contenders like “Blue Moon,” “Bugonia,” “No Other Choice,” and “Nouvelle Vague” to win Best Picture – Comedy or Musical.

“One Battle After Another” dominated the evening with four awards but is expected to face tough competition at the Oscars from “Hanmet,” directed by Chloe Zhao. “Hanmet” took home the night’s final award for Best Picture – Drama, triumphing over films such as “Frankenstein,” “It Was Just An Accident,” “The Secret Agent,” “Sentimental Value,” and “Sinners.”

In the realm of television, “The Pitt” by R. Scott Gemmill, “The Studio” by Evan Goldberg, Alex Gregory, and Peter Huyck, and “Adolescence” by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne captured victories in the drama, comedy or musical, and limited series categories, respectively.

It was noticeably a much more muted acknowledgement for Jenner, 28, as he boldly declared her love for her at last week’s Critics Choice Awards 2026. 

Chalamet beat out an impressive field led by Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another as the field also featured: George Clooney – Jay Kelly, Ethan Hawke – Blue Moon, Lee Byung-Hun – No Other Choice, Jesse Plemons – Bugonia.

In the film, Chalamet portrays Marty Mauser – a young man with a dream of ping-pong stardom that no one respects, but he goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness.

The talented actor also ended his speech with a shout-out to his beloved Liverpool FC, telling the audience ‘You’ll never walk alone,’ which is the anthem for the iconic football club. 

Cooper was not the youngest winner of all-time as Ricky Schroder won now-defunct category New Star Of The Year for his role in the 1979 film the Champ. 

In Adolescence, Cooper portrays a 13-year-old named Jamie Miller who is accused of the murder of a classmate while his family, therapist, and the detective in charge are all left asking what really happened.

The Chloé Zhao-directed and written film takes place after Agnes and William Shakespeare (Buckley and Paul Mescal) lose their son Hamnet to the plague and grapple with grief in 16th-century England, based on the novel of the same name.

Agnes is a healer who must find strength to care for her surviving children while processing her devastating loss.
