Miley Cyrus and Patrick Schwarzenegger’s fleeting romance may have only spanned five months, but it remains a memorable chapter for millennials and fans of the pop star. Their relationship commenced in the fall of 2014, capturing attention as Cyrus, emerging from her Bangerz era, was spotted alongside the 21-year-old University of Southern California student.
At the time, Cyrus was on a hiatus from her on-again, off-again relationship with Liam Hemsworth. Her entanglement with Patrick, the eldest offspring of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, quickly became the talk of the town.
Their passionate affair, however, was short-lived. Just a few months in, rumors of infidelity began to swirl, casting a shadow over their relationship and ultimately leading to their breakup in April 2015. Patrick has consistently denied these allegations.

Patrick revealed during an interview with Details that he had a crush on Cyrus, years before they became an item. “My eye, though, is set on Miley,” he teased at the time.
November 2014
Days before Cyrus turned 22, she was first linked to Patrick. At the time, the couple were spotted kissing at a USC Trojans football game. The singer was decked out in Trojan gear — a beanie and letterman jacket — while Patrick wore all black on the sidelines.
“They have been friends for a long time,” an insider exclusively told Us Weekly at the time. “They have a ton of common friends, so they have run in the same circles for years.”
December 2014
The following month, the pair turned up the heat during several outings in Miami. Cyrus was photographed holding onto Patrick while attending the Jeremy Scott & Moschino Party with Barbie on December 4. The next day, they were seen at La Cote in the Fontainebleau.
The twosome partied together on December 5 at the Hublot Haute Living Party, before Cyrus met Patrick’s father, Arnold, during a family ski trip to Idaho. “Arnold knows his place as a father. He’s happy for Patrick and was thrilled that Patrick introduced him to Miley,” a source exclusively told Us after the trip on December 29.
Days later, Patrick and Cyrus rang in the new year at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas with the Kindergarten Cop actor and friends Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello.

Patrick called himself the “luckiest guy in the world” via Instagram, sharing a photo with Cyrus in honor of Valentine’s Day.
That same month, Cyrus brought Patrick as her plus one to the Pre-Grammy Gala and Salute to Industry Icons presented by Clive Davis and The Recording Academy as the foundation honored Martin Bandier. The duo posed together inside the venue, cuddling up at dinner.
The twosome ended the month by sitting front row at Tom Ford’s Autumn/Winter 2015 Womenswear runway show in Los Angeles. Scarlett Johansson and Amy Adams were seated nearby.

Patrick found himself at the center of an alleged cheating scandal after getting handsy with a mystery brunette while on spring break in Mexico. The sorority girl was seen draping her arms around Patrick’s neck and he did body shots off her.
Patrick denied any wrongdoing, tweeting, “Omg. It’s one of my best friends’ girlfriend. Would NEVER do anything against my GF…. Girls have guy friends and guys have friends that are girls.”

Us confirmed on April 20 that the couple were taking a break after Patrick’s eyebrow-raising spring break festivities. “The scandal did its damage,” an insider told Us at the time. “They both saw sides of each other they weren’t pleased with but they were trying to make it work.”
Two days later, Us confirmed that Cyrus and Patrick had called it quits for good.

The White Lotus star crossed paths with Cyrus at the 2025 Met Gala, according to photos obtained by Us. In a picture from the function, Cyrus seemingly walked past Patrick without acknowledging him.
Patrick, meanwhile, had a smile on his face as he appeared to stare off at something else in the background. Cyrus didn’t seem to notice her ex-boyfriend as she posed for the cameras.

Patrick’s father reflected on his relationship with Cyrus during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. “The best [thing] was that she’s a wonderful, wonderful girl and human being. Very, very talented,” Arnold said of the Hannah Montana alum. “She came up to Sun Valley when we were skiing up there and she was just such a wonderful houseguest and everything like that.”
Arnold gushed, “We just all loved her. She was just a really good, good person and fun to hang out with.”
He added, “I’m sorry it didn’t work out. But Patrick, in the meantime, found another girl that he got engaged with and he’s getting married to in September.” (Patrick got engaged to Abby Champion in December 2023 after eight years together.)
That same month, Patrick’s mom made a rare comment about Cyrus as well while cohosting Today With Jenna & Friends.
“Did you ever do that with any of your kids’ exes? Keep in touch with them?” Jenna Bush Hager asked Shriver on the June 26 episode, to which she replied, “No, no, I’m trying to think, no.”
Bush Hager then teased, “No Miley Cyrus?” Shriver laughed, saying, “I would be very happy to see Miley. I liked Miley. I’d be happy to see her. But I did not stay texting [her], no I didn’t.”

Over a decade after their split, Cyrus and Patrick reunited at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards. The former couple were spotted exchanging greetings and sharing a quick kiss on the cheek on January 11, 2026.
