The anticipation surrounding the potential for a third season of “Landman” and Billy Bob Thornton’s involvement is palpable. Such inquiries might seem speculative, but given the series’ meteoric rise since its 2024 debut, it’s hardly surprising. The show’s success has been unwavering, so much so that in December 2025, right in the midst of its second season, “Landman” was officially greenlit for a third installment. Fans can rest assured that the saga of the oil business in West Texas is set to continue, keeping viewers hooked for seasons to come.

However, a more pressing and uncertain question looms: Is Billy Bob Thornton exiting “Landman”? This query emerged after the intense events of Season 2, Episode 9, titled “Plans, Tears and Sirens.” During a high-profile viewing party for a new gas rig venture, tensions between M-Tex owner Cami Miller, portrayed by Demi Moore, and company president Tommy Norris, played by Thornton, reach a boiling point. This confrontation leaves fans wondering about Tommy’s future on the show.

In a dramatic exchange, Tommy, who is wary of risky endeavors after numerous past failures, expresses his newfound cautious approach. Cami, however, argues that risk-taking is the cornerstone of success in the oil and gas industry. She bluntly concludes their conversation with, “I’m saying you’re fired,” leaving viewers in disbelief.

LANDMAN 209 [Cami to Tommy] “I’m saying you’re fired.”

So Cami fired Tommy on Landman. Does that mean Billy Bob Thornton is leaving the show?

Yet, dismissing the titular character seems implausible. Taylor Sheridan, the creator of the show, crafted the role specifically for Thornton, and the actor has often expressed how naturally he fits into the character of Tommy Norris. The idea of cutting such a pivotal figure from a successful series seems far-fetched.

Thornton isn’t the only one who cherishes his role; the entire cast holds him in high regard. Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper Norris, notes the authenticity and raw energy Thornton brings to the set. While the specifics of Sheridan’s plans for Tommy’s storyline remain under wraps, it’s likely that Cooper’s burgeoning expertise in the oil industry will play a significant role in the unfolding narrative. The next chapter in Tommy’s journey is eagerly awaited by fans and promises to be as compelling as ever.

And finally, if you’re wondering how Cami Miller firing Tommy Norris will play into the Season 2 finale of Landman, you won’t have long to wait. Episode 10 drops January 18th, and it’s sure to be a wild ride.
