Minnesota Prays for a Judge to Jump in, Takes Trump Admin to Court Over ICE Actions

More than five years have passed since the George Floyd protests shook Minneapolis, leading to widespread destruction. Yet, this week, the streets of Minnesota are once again filled with demonstrators, this time in response to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities in the Twin Cities. The tensions escalated following the death of activist Renee Good, who was shot by an ICE agent. According to reports, Good attempted to impede operations by driving her vehicle in a menacing way toward the agent, prompting a heated public outcry and calls for action against the federal agency.

In a broader political context, the Democrats have increasingly turned to the judicial system as a tool to challenge the president’s agenda during his second term. Despite setbacks at the polls and in Congress, the party has found some success in leveraging the courts. Activist judges have issued numerous temporary restraining orders and injunctions against the administration, with district courts ruling against the president’s policies multiple times recently. This legal strategy has become a frequent recourse, with over 500 challenges filed against various aspects of the agenda, resulting in daily judicial interventions.

In a bold move on Monday, Minnesota’s Attorney General, Keith Ellison, who is known for his progressive stance, announced that the state is joining the legal fray. Minnesota has launched a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security, marking its entry into the ongoing legal battles. Ellison’s filing names several officials within the administration, setting the stage for a significant legal confrontation.

He named a slew of administration officials in his filing:

Minnesota and the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul sued the Trump administration Monday, seeking to block a massive federal immigration enforcement surge they say has flooded the Twin Cities with armed agents, sparked fear and unrest, and interfered with state and local authorities, according to court filings.

The lawsuit names Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem, top officials with DHS, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons and Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino, along with the federal agencies themselves.

In a news conference, Ellison threw out all sorts of progressive dogma as he claimed ICE was conducting a “federal invasion” and making “racist arrests.”

“We’re here to announce a lawsuit we’re filing against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to end the unlawful, unprecedented surge of the federal law enforcement agents into Minnesota,” Ellison charged. “We allege that the obvious targeting of Minnesota for our diversity, for our democracy and our differences of opinion with the federal government is a violation of the Constitution and of federal law.”

No, they’re not targeting you for your diversity, Keith; they’re targeting you because you’ve coddled an untold number of illegal aliens, you’ve allowed Somali fraud to flourish unchecked, and your state is the poster child of everything that’s wrong with progressive policies.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin was not impressed with Minnesota’s continued antics:

It really is astounding that the Left can miraculously rediscover the Tenth Amendment when they don’t want federal law enforcement officers to enforce federal law — which is a clear federal responsibility under Article I, Article II and the Supremacy Clause — and then go right back to federalizing every state responsibility possible when they get back in power. Spare us.

I would love to tell you that this is a frivolous lawsuit that will be quickly jettisoned by a competent jurist, but all too often, we have seen district judges shading decisions to align with their own ideological views. In the meantime, it feels like “here we go again.”

Editor’s Note: Democrat politicians and their radical supporters will do everything they can to interfere with and threaten ICE agents enforcing our immigration laws.
