Kiefer Sutherland, widely recognized for his iconic role as Jack Bauer in the intense Fox series “24” and its subsequent spin-offs, finds himself in the spotlight once again.
WASHINGTON — Early Monday, the acclaimed actor was taken into custody by Los Angeles authorities following an alleged altercation with a ride-hailing service driver, according to police reports.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to the Associated Press that Sutherland, an Emmy Award recipient, was apprehended shortly after midnight. The incident occurred near the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, close to the Hollywood Hills.
According to the LAPD, the 59-year-old actor allegedly entered a ride-hailing vehicle, where he physically assaulted the driver and issued threats deemed criminal.
Sutherland was booked on suspicion of making felony criminal threats but secured his release by posting a $50,000 bond. Fortunately, no injuries that needed medical care were reported in the incident.
His first court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 2, according to jail records.
Sutherland is best known for his role as Jack Bauer in the TV series “24”. He also has credits in the movie “Melancholia” and, most recently, in “Tinsel Town,” starring opposite Rebel Wilson.
He also starred in “The Lost Boys” and “Young Guns” and appeared in two films directed by Rob Reiner, “Stand by Me” and “A Few Good Men.”
Sutherland is also the son of the late “Hunger Games” actor Donald Sutherland, who died in June 2024.
