Two boys from Illinois are now facing serious legal consequences after being charged with raping a girl inside a public restroom on Sunday, an attack they allegedly recorded.
According to the Chicago Tribune, James Patterson, 17, and a 15-year-old accomplice followed the victim into a bathroom at a Walgreens in Naperville. Patterson reportedly forced the girl against a stall, forcibly removed her pants, and sexually assaulted her.
Prosecutors from DuPage County claim that Patterson also physically assaulted the victim as she attempted to resist and pull her pants back up, pleading for them to stop. The younger suspect is accused of recording the attack on video before also taking part in the assault.
Following the alleged assault, the teens reportedly fled the scene. The girl immediately informed store employees, leading to the quick arrest of both suspects. It was reported that Patterson was found with the victim’s cellphone when apprehended.
Patterson now faces charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault and robbery, while the 15-year-old is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, creation of child sexual abuse material, and criminal sexual assault.
Patterson’s name is being reported as he is being charged as an adult. The 15-year-old suspect remains held at a juvenile detention center, suggesting he has not or will not be prosecuted as an adult.
Patterson is due in court on February 2. The other teen has a court date scheduled for January 27.
