Bethenny Frankel has recently opened up about what she claims was the reaction of Trevor Engelson, Meghan Markle‘s former husband, upon learning she had begun dating Prince Harry.
The 55-year-old former Real Housewives star had a brief relationship with Engelson in 2016, which coincidentally was the same year Markle was first romantically linked to Prince Harry. During a recent appearance on the “The Toast” podcast with Claudia Oshry, Frankel recounted the exchange.
“He mentioned that his ex-wife was involved in a TV show called Suits. At the time, I had no idea what the show was about or who she was,” Frankel shared in the episode that aired on Monday, November 17.
She continued, “A few months later, I came across photos of Harry with someone and I texted Trevor, asking, ‘Is this your ex?’ His response was simply, ‘Yup.’”
Curious about the unfolding situation, Bethenny asked Trevor, “Do you think she’s going to close?”
He reportedly replied, “Oh, she’ll close.”
“I don’t want to get into more about that but he was like, ‘She’ll close,’” Bethenny recalled.
For context, Meghan and Trevor began dating in 2004 and married in Jamaica in August 2011. They separated about 18 months later and finalized their divorce in March 2014, citing irreconcilable differences. Reports noted Meghan returned her wedding ring to Trevor after deciding their marriage was over.
After her split from Trevor, Meghan dated Canadian chef Cory Vitiello before being introduced to Prince Harry by mutual friend Misha Nonoo in May 2016. Today, the Sussexes have two children and live in Montecito.
Bethenny also addressed the so-called “photo-gate” involving photos of Meghan and Harry at Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday party. The images were reportedly deleted at the couple’s request. “Meghan is trying to be so many different things,” Bethenny said, suggesting the couple didn’t want the public to see them “hobnobbing with the Kardashians.”
Bethenny has been openly critical of Meghan in the past. Following the Sussexes’ infamous Oprah interview, she tweeted: “Cry me a river … the plight of being a game show host, fairly unknown actress, to suffering in a palace, w tiaras & 7 figure weddings for TWO WHOLE YEARS to being a household name with Oprah Winfrey on speed dial.”
