‘The View’s Whoopi Goldberg Fires Back At Trump’s Threat To Invoke The Insurrection Act In Minneapolis: “Protesting Is Not An Insurrection”

Whoopi Goldberg has voiced her disapproval of President Donald Trump’s consideration to use the Insurrection Act against “peaceful” demonstrators in Minneapolis.

The protests erupted after a second shooting by an ICE officer in Minneapolis, following the recent death of American citizen Renee Nicole Good. The demonstrations are in response to the administration’s stringent immigration policies. Despite Minneapolis officials urging for peaceful protests, tensions escalated with Trump’s threat to deploy U.S. troops to the city under the Insurrection Act.

During today’s episode of The View, Goldberg took the opportunity in the initial Hot Topics segment to commend those who have been protesting peacefully.

“I’m truly glad to see people doing it the right way. If things had taken a different path, we’d be having an entirely different conversation,” Goldberg remarked. “It’s encouraging to see people exercising their right.”

Goldberg also reminded her audience that “people protesting is not an insurrection.”

“It’s people just protesting,” she continued. “When he’s saying that he’s going to put that out, he’s basically saying you’re doing something that you’re not doing. I just want people to be aware that, you know, it is a difficult thing to do when they got their eyes on you.”

Joy Behar, however, called out the hypocrisy from the Trump administration when it comes to protesting.

“On Jan. 6, when there was really an insurrection, which he encouraged and even may have promoted it, basically, the administration said the people attacking police were tourists,” she chimed in.

“They will spin it and make it anyway they want,” Behar added. “If you are a peaceful protester from the left, you are creating an insurrection. If you’re doing it from the right, you’re a tourist. That’s where they’re at.”
