Authorities in western North Carolina have apprehended two individuals in connection with the murder of a teenager from Asheville. The teen, who vanished in November, was discovered deceased in a ditch in Candler on December 12.
Johnathan David Paleno, aged 21, was taken into custody on December 19 and is facing charges of first-degree murder in the killing of 18-year-old Joseph Solomon Rose, according to a report by WLOS. On the following Tuesday, police also arrested 20-year-old Avery Kate Deeds. She is accused of concealing Rose’s death and tampering with his remains.
The family of Joseph Rose reported him missing on December 2, after last hearing from him on November 24, as detailed by CrimeOnline. Rose was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
A search of Paleno’s vehicle unveiled “traces of blood” on the back seat, the back door seal, the floorboard, and the steering wheel. According to the search warrant, Paleno confessed to moving Rose’s body, including removing his puffy jacket and rolling the body down an embankment.
Deeds faces charges for allegedly being aware of Rose’s shooting death and deliberately concealing it, subsequently failing to inform law enforcement about the incident.
Paleno is being held without bond, while Deeds was given an $80,000 bond.
