The cause behind the tragic death of Linda Brown, a dedicated special education teacher from Chicago, has been disclosed following her body being discovered in Lake Michigan on Monday.

FOX 32 reports that the Cook County Medical Examiner has determined that the 53-year-old Brown passed away due to suicide by drowning. The results from the toxicology tests are still awaited.

Authorities found Brown’s remains in the water near the 3100 block of South Lake Shore Drive.

Further information regarding the circumstances has yet to be shared.

According to a prior report by CrimeOnline, Brown was last spotted on January 3 near the 4500 block of South Martin Luther King Drive, not far from her home.

Security footage that day showed her getting out of her vehicle, a blue Honda Civic, and walking over a pedestrian bridge toward the water.

Brown was a longtime teacher at Robert Healy Elementary School.

“Our deepest condolences go out to her husband, family, friends, students and coworkers,” the Chicago Teachers Union said in a statement Tuesday.

“We know so many of our members at Healy, Prieto, Tarkington and other schools have been sharing concern, love, and appreciation for Linda and messages have been pouring in from across the city.”
