A Florida man is facing incarceration after an altercation over allegedly counterfeit sneakers turned violent. Jose Chacon Martinez, 34, has been charged with attempted murder following an incident where he purportedly attempted to stab a man during a dispute concerning the authenticity of the man’s sneakers.
According to law enforcement documents accessed by Law&Crime, the incident unfolded on December 17, 2025, when Martinez approached a group of young men in Midtown Miami. He accused one of them of wearing fake Air Jordan sneakers, pointing out an unusual flaw on the shoes. The wearer explained that the apparent erasure of the brand name was due to “rain, sweat, and normal wear.”
The interaction quickly escalated, with the alleged victim advising Martinez to leave. Growing agitated, Martinez allegedly threatened, “I’m going to go get my gun,” as he moved towards his blue scooter, only to ominously warn the group, “I’ll be back, you shall see.”
Shortly thereafter, the tension reignited when the alleged victim felt a tug on his shoulder. Turning around, he was confronted not by a friend, but by Martinez, who was reportedly brandishing a large kitchen knife. Reacting swiftly, the alleged victim began to record the encounter on his phone.
Martinez allegedly attempted to strike the man, dislodging the phone from his hand. As the victim tried to retrieve his phone, Martinez reportedly lunged at him once more, aiming to stab him in the face but missing.
At some point, Martinez got into the front passenger side of a red vehicle being driven by 28-year-old Gerdenson Rodriguez Ordonez, a DoorDash driver. Martinez allegedly attempted to attack the man again as he continued to record him.
Ordonez told police that he did not know Martinez, but had seen Martinez earlier on Dec. 17, 2025. Martinez allegedly told Ordonez that “Uber and DoorDash drivers were talking about him” at the Five Guys, so Ordonez drove to that location “to clarify the matter,” saying that “he does not have any issues with anyone.”
For allegedly letting Martinez into his vehicle and then driving away after witnessing him trying to stab someone, Ordonez was charged with being an accessory. He is in jail on an immigration hold and has a hearing scheduled for Jan. 20.
Martinez was identified by police as the suspect days later, and he turned himself in to police on Wednesday. During a court appearance on Thursday, a judge ordered that he be held at Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation without bond; he is also being detained on an immigration hold. His arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 9.
