The House Ethics Committee revealed on Friday that it is currently examining accusations involving Rep. Nancy Mace, a prominent conservative figure from South Carolina.
While specific details of the investigation remain undisclosed, the committee acknowledged that the case concerning Mace was forwarded by the Office of Congressional Conduct (OCC) on December 2, 2025.
“The Committee emphasizes that the referral or extension alone, along with the mandatory disclosure of such an extension and the identification of the individual concerned, should not be construed as evidence of any wrongdoing or as a reflection of any conclusions by the Committee,” stated the panel in an official release.
The committee further conveyed that it intends to reveal its “course of action” regarding this matter by March 2.
When approached, a spokesperson for Mace directed The Hill to a press release dated November 21, where Mace alleged that her former fiancé, Patrick Bryant, played a role in prompting an OCC inquiry into her “lodging reimbursements.”
The Washington Post reported in 2024 that Mace, “who co-owns a $1,649,000 Capitol Hill townhouse she purchased in 2021 with her then-fiancé, Patrick Bryant, expensed a total of $27,817 in 2023, an average of more than $2,300 a month,” according to congressional data. She had expensed more than $3,000 for lodging in January, March and May, for instance, the Post reported.
Mace claimed in a statement then that she had incurred more than $100,000 in lodging expenses in D.C. and had received about $29,000 after taxes in reimbursements.
“Do the math,” Mace said in her statement. “Bryant is terrified he might go to jail. And if he does, my female constituents will be safer for it. This just goes to show how broken the system is when a predator can viciously go after his victims in this way and is permitted to do so regardless of the facts.”
