Energy Safe Victoria has raised allegations against Panda Mart, claiming the retailer sold products without being registered as a “Responsible Supplier” on the national Electrical Equipment Safety System (EESS), a mandatory requirement.
In March of the previous year, enforcement officers and equipment safety compliance engineers from Energy Safe conducted inspections at Panda Mart’s Cranbourne store and Dandenong warehouse.
Following these inspections, authorities confiscated over 50 different models of desks and table lamps due to suspected safety issues. Among the concerns were inadequate insulation and exposed live components, which pose a risk of electric shock upon contact.
Customers who have purchased these table lamps from Panda Mart are advised to return them to the store without delay.
In Victoria, supplying electrical appliances that fail to meet safety standards is illegal and can result in fines of up to $50,000.
