Charting the incredible journey of a boy without magic who aspires to become the most formidable mage, Black Clover has evolved from relative obscurity to one of the leading battle shonen series of its era. Originally concluding its anime run a few years back, the series is set for a revival by Studio Pierrot in 2026. This return is timely, coinciding with the manga nearing its grand finale.
Over the years, Asta, along with his comrades in the Black Bulls, has faced off against numerous formidable mages. Initially contending with other wizards, their battles have escalated to encounters with devils. As the story draws to a close, both familiar characters and new additions have risen to claim their places as some of the most powerful figures in this universe.
Kira, a prominent figure in the Clover Kingdom’s Magic Parliament, wielded Scale Magic to administer justice across the land. He once turned this magic against Asta, prosecuting him due to his devilish powers following the elf war. However, in the latest arc, Kira’s fate took a dramatic turn when Lucius transformed him into the vessel for the demon Baal.
Damnatio Kira Began Using His Scale Magic For Evil
A member of Clover Kingdom’s Magic Parliament, Kira relied on the power of his Scale Magic to pass out judgment within the kingdom. At one point, Kira used this power to strike against Asta for being a devil, putting him on trial for what happened during the war with the elves. In the most recent arc of the series though, Kira was transformed by Lucius and made the host of the demon Baal.
As a paladin, Kira became one of Lucius’ right-hand men, and fought against the Black Bulls to stop them from summoning Asta. Kira’s own power and the power of Baal allowed him to easily dominate the majority of the Black Bulls. It took Asta’s new Zetten attack to finally put him down. While he’s strong, given how easily he went down against Asta it’s hard to rank him above the tenth place spot.
Acier Silva Proves She’s Still One Of The Most Powerful Magic Knights
During the battle against Lucius Zogratis, the Silva family’s mother Acier makes a return. Though the world of magic should’ve left her behind, instead she’s boosted by the power of Lucius’ magic and transformed into a Paladin. With that power, she’s once again able to use her full Steel and Water magic to their fullest.
The entire Silva family is helpless against Acier’s power until Noelle arrives to save the day. Still, even Noelle wielding the power of a new familiar is only narrowly able to destroy Acier, and it takes her entire family helping out to win. Acier also returns briefly when Lucius revives everyone, her power boosted once more.
Morgen Faust Returns Wielding Both Light And Dark Magic
Nacht’s brother Morgen makes a return during the final arc, revived as a Paladin by Lucius. Though he wields the Light Magic he always had, his reincarnation allows him to also generate Dark Magic as well. Wielding this impressive power, he’s able to bring even the powerful Yami Sukehiro to his knees.
Given Yami acknowledged Morgen even when they were kids, his incredible talent for battle should be expected. Like the other Paladins, Morgen gains access to an even larger mana pool than normal, and incredible regeneration skills. It takes both Yami and Nacht working together to finish him off for good.
Noelle Silva Gains The Power Of A Sea God
Noelle has long proven herself as one of the strongest members of the Black Bulls, but in the last arc of Black Clover she becomes something else. While training to prepare for Asta’s return, she surpasses the rest of her family and becomes the strongest of the already mighty House Silva. Though she loses the Saint Stage magic that makes her so dangerous against devils, she gains something new instead.
During her training, Noelle meets the Sea God, Leviathan, who bonds with Noelle to help stop Lucius. With this power, she gains the Dragon Form of her Valkyrie Dress, allowing her to surpass her mother, Acier. Since Acier was once considered powerful enough to fight evenly with Mereoleona, it’s safe to say Noelle has become one of the strongest characters in the series.
Mereoleona Vermillion Surpasses Her Limits Once More
From the moment she was introduced, Mereoleona Vermillion has been an absurd character. Described as the “Uncrowned, Undefeated Lioness”, no matter the villain she faces, she pushes past her limits to surpass them. She demands excellence of herself, and from the Crimson Lion mage guild she’s lead into battle.
During the final arc, she’s forced to push herself against Moris Libardirt in his upgraded Paragon form. Even transforming into her Hellfire Incarnate form isn’t enough, as Moris’ attacks were able to dissolve any physical being it touched. However, she unlocked a new spell, Exercitus Leonum, which not only transformed her body into pure flame mana, but was able to resurrect all the fallen members of the Crimson Lions. Through this incredible new power, she obliterated the improved Moris in a single, fiery blow.
Nacht Faust Can Unite With Multiple Devils At Once
The last remaining member of House Faust, Nacht made his first appearance in Black Clover in the latter half of the series. Revealing himself as the Vice Captain of the Black Bulls, Nacht immediately proved he deserved his role in the group. The host of multiple devils, Nacht helped teach Asta how to use his devil powers properly to battle against the Spade Kingdom.
During the final arc of the series, Nacht is forced to fight against his brother Morgen after he’s revived and made into one of Lucius’ Paladins. While Morgen wields the power of light and dark, he seems like he’s actually more powerful than Nacht. However, once Nacht accepts that it’s his responsibility to seal his brother again, he enters Unite Mode with all of his devils to take Morgen down in a final, tear-soaked clash. Still, he remains locked at fifth place since he can’t quite compete with Lucius or his biggest enemies.
Yami Sukehiro Continues To Feel Like Black Clover’s Protagonist
Fans have often joked Yami was secretly a protagonist of his own series before Black Clover came along. Yet with the more recent arcs, it felt like Yami was being left behind compared to Asta and the new villains. Fortunately, Yami receives multiple boosts in power that allowed him to take a top spot once more.
For one, he consumes a secret drug pill known as the Kikongan which boosts his power several times over. For another, he becomes the host of Adrammelech, one of the strongest devils that had yet to take a side in the war. With this power, Yami gains access to Light Magic in addition to his usual Dark Magic, making him capable of striking down Lucius clones.
Yuno Grinberryall Feels Overpowered Despite Not Being Lead Protagonist
Yuno has always felt like a cheat character in Black Clover. He starts with a four-leaf clover grimoire, and he just keeps gaining ridiculous new abilities as the series goes on. Eventually, he even attains two different powerful grimoires, allowing him to manipulate both Wind and Star Magic.
By the time of Black Clover‘s final arc, Yuno has leveled up again, becoming the savior of the Clover Kingdom and humanity in general. It’s his Never-Never Land spell that allows the other Magic Knight guilds to stand a chance against Lucius’ Paladins. He’s also capable of fighting with Lucius’ main body on his own, something no other mage stands a chance of pulling off.
Asta Has Gained Complete Control Over His Anti-Magic
The boy who aims to become Wizard King, Asta is the very reason humanity stands a chance against Lucius at all. His very existence has altered the paths of countless lives, making even someone with future-sight like Lucius unable to guarantee a victory. Though it feels like a power that belongs to villains, Asta’s anti-magic power makes him a threat in every arc, and pivotal to the last storyline.
After training in the Hino Country, Asta gains mastery over Zetten, which lets him manipulate his Anti-Magic and ki with finer control than ever. More than that, he’s able to grant Anti-Magic powers to his allies briefly in battle. Even Yuno in the final battle is only able to stand against Lucius with the help of Asta’s Anti-Magic.
Lucius Zogratis Wields Nearly All Magic As Wizard Emperor
The last of the Zogratis siblings, Lucius Zogratis was born with the soul of the Wizard King, Julius Novachrono, inside his body. To enact his master plan, he hid within Julius until everything was in place. When he finally emerges following the defeat of all the devils, Lucius takes the magics of all the devils that attacked Clover Kingdom into himself.
Lucius wields the power of Soul Magic originally, but he adds the powers of Time, Gravity, and all the magics of the other Zogratis siblings into himself. Wielding these powers, he’s able to conquer the mind of anyone he touches, and create clones of himself with similar levels of magic power. It takes both Asta and Yuno working together in perfect sync to defeat him, making him the strongest villain and strongest solo character in Black Clover.
