GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have apprehended 59-year-old James Edward Flintroy on charges of issuing a false bomb threat, following an investigation by the Gainesville Police Department.
The incident occurred on January 15 when officers were dispatched to TD Bank located at 600 NW 43rd Street. Flintroy allegedly contacted the bank’s corporate office, where he threatened to “come to the location and blow it up.” According to the report, Flintroy claimed he had previously served prison time, expressed no fear of returning, and insisted he intended to carry out the threat.
A bank official informed the responding officer that Flintroy is an account holder and a regular visitor to the NW 43rd Street branch, which means he knows the office layout. The bank provided the officer with Flintroy’s contact details from his account information.
Police tracked down Flintroy at his residence in Campus Walk Apartments at 914 SW 8th Avenue. After being read his Miranda rights, Flintroy reportedly admitted during questioning that he had made the threatening call to the bank out of anger.
Flintroy has been charged with making a false bomb threat. He has 22 felony convictions (non-violent) and 29 misdemeanor convictions (non-violent) and has served six state prison sentences (all out of Broward County), with his most recent release in 2015. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $75,000.
