In a heartwarming initiative, families in Jacksonville were granted some relief from the constant burden of escalating grocery costs as Tamika’s School of Epicure stepped up to distribute much-needed food supplies.

On Saturday, the Westside High School grounds became a beacon of hope for many, as the nonprofit organization, spearheaded by CEO and founder Tamika McKenzie, a proud alumna of the school, orchestrated a free food giveaway. This effort was designed to alleviate the mounting financial pressures faced by numerous households due to the soaring prices of essential groceries.

Families eagerly gathered to receive an array of fresh produce, toys, and various household items, all provided at no charge. This event underscored the significant demand for assistance within the community, reflecting a widespread need for support.

“We serve at least 200 to 300 families each distribution,” McKenzie explained. “Last month alone, we reached out to thousands of individuals. Our commitment to the community is unwavering, and I am deeply passionate about advocating for our neighbors.”

McKenzie told First Coast News her organization has been distributing food on Jacksonville’s Westside for the past five years, working to ensure families have access to fresh, healthy options while reminding residents they’re not alone.

Looking ahead, Tamika’s School of Epicure plans to host monthly food giveaways for the rest of the year, all at Westside High School.

McKenzie says the nonprofit is currently in need of a food distribution truck to expand its reach and better serve families across the area. She adds that community donations and partnerships play a critical role in making these food drives possible.

Those interested in supporting future distributions can donate or volunteer through Tamika’s School of Epicure.
