Brevard County, Fla. – A troubling incident unfolded on Interstate 95 in Brevard County when a motorist collided with both a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) cruiser and a deputy’s patrol car, as reported by FHP.

The incident occurred Saturday morning in the northbound lanes near mile marker 185, according to information shared by the FHP on social media.

Images captured at the crash site reveal the extent of the damage to the vehicles involved. The rear of the FHP cruiser is severely crushed, leaving the trunk lid ajar, while the sheriff’s patrol vehicle exhibits even more significant damage to its rear.

Prior to the collision, troopers were reportedly investigating a hit-and-run incident on the same stretch of northbound I-95, necessitating the closure of the left lane.

The FHP further detailed that both the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office vehicle and the FHP patrol car were stationary in the left lane at the time of the crash, with the sheriff’s vehicle positioned directly behind the trooper’s car.

Troopers said a blue Kia failed to stop for the sheriff’s office vehicle and as a result, the front of the Kia struck the back of the BCSO vehicle. The impact cause the deputy’s vehicle to strike the back of the trooper’s vehicle.

According to the FHP, the driver of the Kia was transported to Holmes Regional with serious injuries.

The trooper was taken to to Holmes Regional with minor injuries.

The sheriff’s office said in a statement to News 6 that their deputy was not injured in the crash.

“This is why the #MoveOver law exists. Slow down. Move over. Lives depend on it,” the post states.
