‘Remain vigilant’: IL Secretary of State issues warning about DMV text scam

ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Residents of Illinois are being cautioned by the Secretary of State to be wary of a fraudulent text message scam, where perpetrators falsely claim to be from the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

“Scammers are hitting Illinoisans with deceptive text messages — I even received one myself,” stated Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.

These texts allege that recipients owe payment for an unresolved ticket, warning that failure to comply will result in the suspension of vehicle registration and driving privileges. The messages falsely assert that enforcement began on January 17.
