Springfield Public Schools Announces Recommendation for New Superintendent

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — An experienced administrator from Springfield Public Schools District 186 is poised to become the next superintendent, following more than two decades of dedicated service.

The Board of Education is set to vote on Dr. Terrance Jordan’s appointment as superintendent at an upcoming meeting. Should he receive approval, Jordan will officially take on the role starting July 1, 2026.

“After an extensive and competitive search process that included surveys, interviews, and focus groups with staff, families, students, and community members, we are confident that the top candidate has emerged,” stated board representative Buffy Lael-Wolf in a press release.

Dr. Jordan’s career with District 186 began in 2003 when he started as a kindergarten teaching assistant. Over the years, he has held various roles, including library technology specialist, parent educator, teacher, guidance dean, and principal. In 2021, Jordan advanced to the District Administration team and is currently serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Family, Community, and School Leadership.

“Dr. Jordan brings both vision and heart to this role,” Lael-Wolf said. “He understands our district because he has lived our work. He knows our students, our families and our schools, and he has earned trust through years of service. We are confident he will lead District 186 with integrity, purpose and unwavering commitment to student success.”

Superintendent Jennifer Gill will retire from the district on June 30, 2026.
