A Georgia man has been taken into custody following the discovery of severe injuries to an 8-week-old infant who was admitted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with a brain hemorrhage attributed to abusive head trauma.
Julian Chase Jalbert Sr., aged 27, was detained at the hospital on Wednesday, facing charges of child cruelty and battery, according to a report by WAGA.
Authorities from Hall County were alerted to a residence at approximately 9 a.m. on January 11, following a report of an infant who was not breathing. The baby was initially taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville before being transferred to the pediatric hospital in Atlanta for further care.
Further investigation led authorities to examine the infant’s twin, who was found to have a bruise on their leg. Officials allege that Jalbert was responsible for both the severe injuries suffered by the hospitalized infant and the minor injury noted on the twin.
According to a report by WSB, the injuries sustained by the critically injured infant were believed to result from “violent” shaking.
Jalbert is being held without bond, and the Georgia Division of Family and Children’s Services now has custody of both children.
