A man has been charged with murder more than a year after a man died on the New South Wales South Coast in a “random” attack.

A 60-year-old man lost his life on December 9, 2024, after being discovered on a secluded property in North Nowra.

He was found near a gas pipeline clearing, suffering from severe head injuries. Despite the swift response from paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police apprehended a 29-year-old man at a residence in North Nowra yesterday evening in connection with the incident.

The suspect was taken into custody at Nowra Police Station, where he was formally charged with murder.

Detective Inspector Catherine Flood confirmed that although the two men were strangers, a dispute had occurred between them prior to the alleged murder.

“The attack was random, there was an altercation,” she said.

“It was random, but as a result of an altercation that took place.”

Police said the attack was random and came as a result of an altercation.

Flood said no weapon was found on the scene, and said police believe no weapon was used in the alleged attack.

Police said the accused was known to them, and has also been charged with several other offences unrelated to the alleged murder.

These include break, enter and steal, aggravated break and enter, and commit serious indictable offence while inflicting actual bodily harm.

Flood said police are still investigating and believe another person may have been involved in the man’s death.

She urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could be relevant.

The 29-year-old man will appear before court today.
