Hilaria Baldwin, wife of actor Alec Baldwin, recently found herself addressing negative feedback regarding her daughter Carmen’s outfit choice. Opting for a rather creative approach, Hilaria took to Instagram to share a five-minute presentation, complete with a whiteboard, to defend how her eldest child chooses to express herself through fashion.

The backlash stemmed from a playful Instagram video Carmen had directed, which echoed the style of the TV show “Gossip Girl.” Posted last Saturday, the clip featured her alongside her younger sisters, three-year-old Ilaria and four-year-old MariLu. In the video, Carmen donned a pearl body-chain over a white tank top paired with a khaki skirt, while her little sisters blew kisses to the camera.

Adding to the fun, Carmen lip-synched to Lana Del Rey’s 2007 song “Trash Magic (Miss America),” playfully mouthing “Come back to me, please.” Despite the light-hearted nature of the video, it sparked a wave of criticism about Carmen’s attire, prompting Hilaria to stand up for her daughter’s right to style autonomy.

Hundreds of people liked comments from three other Instagram users outraged at Baldwin (born Hillary Lynn Hayward-Thomas) ‘rushing’ to ‘let her look like a teenager.’

But the Dancing with the Stars contestant was most offended by the comment from Instagram user @jgh220 aka Janine Hahn which read: ‘How on Earth do you let a 12 y/o dress like this … EVERYTHING!’

Baldwin responded by accusing Hahn of being jealous about getting older and being ‘pushed out’ of the ‘women prime’ era into the ‘old lady’ stage of life.

‘Yes, teach about predators, but ultimately women can do more harm to each other through this kind of comment because it’s shaming and it’s not inclusive,’ the Boston-born culture vulture – who boasts 1.1 million social media followers – blasted.

‘My kids are so safe wearing a tank top, skirt and tights. She’s been wearing that her whole life. So why is it making you uncomfortable?’

The Baldwins stars enlist two nannies to help care for their seven children including son Rafael, 10; son Leonardo, 9; son Romeo, 7; and son Eduardo, 5.

The 67-year-old Oscar nominee is also grandfather to two-year-old granddaughter Holland through his 30-year-old daughter Ireland from his seven-year marriage to ex-wife Kim Basinger, which acrimoniously ended in 2002.

The married couple of 13 years originally met in 2011 while dining separately at the since-closed restaurant Pure Food and Wine in New York City.
