Todd and Julie Chrisley have opened up about their experiences raising their teenage granddaughter.

On the latest episode of the Chrisley Confessions 2.0 podcast, aired Wednesday, January 14, the reality TV couple discussed their family dynamics and how life has unfolded since their release from prison.

“We really seem to be in a great place,” Todd remarked during the podcast.

Julie chimed in, “I think it took us some time to find our groove and settle back into the rhythm of daily life.”

She also noted that the home they returned to felt different than the one they left behind.

Julie further explained that the household they returned to looked different than before.

“We came back home to different situations with all the kids. Everything is different,” she said. “I think it’s just trying to get back into that rhythm, because it’s really just me, you and Chloe on an everyday basis.”

Todd and Julie adopted their granddaughter Chloe in 2023 before reporting to prison to begin sentences connected to a multimillion dollar bank fraud and tax evasion case.

Chloe is the biological daughter of Todd’s son Kyle Chrisley. While they were incarcerated, their daughter Savannah Chrisley served as Chloe’s legal guardian.

The couple said they are seeing a new side of the 13 year old as she enters her teen years.

“She has such a huge personality. Her personality is coming out more every day,” Todd said. “You know what she said to me that day? She said, ‘Girl, don’t try me.’”

Todd also joked about how Chloe’s attitude differs depending on which parent she is addressing. He said there is a noticeable difference between when the teen “gives [Julie] lip versus when she gives [him] lip,” adding that there is more of a “fear for life.”

“She’s gotten lippy because she’s 13 now,” Todd continued. He also shared that Chloe has become increasingly interested in beauty and self expression. “She’s into this whole straightening the hair and blowing it out and going her going to her hair guy and makeup and this that and the other.”

Julie said the couple has learned to be selective about what they push back on. “We have to pick our battles,” she told her husband.

Todd, however, admitted that hair and makeup remain sticking points for him. “Well, I looked at her. I said, ‘You just had curl in your hair on Sunday. Why is it straight today? Stop putting heat on your hair,’” he recalled.

He also shared a firm warning when it comes to makeup. “I said, ‘Let me tell you something. You come out of there with a cat eye at 13. I’ll dot the other eye,’” Todd said. “I said, ‘You’re not painting on no — whatever the stuff is — eyeliner.’”

All the same, Julie admitted they recently spent $750 on makeup. “We’re starting to delve into that world,” she said.
