Meghan Markle’s future visits to the U.K. hinge on the assurance of automatic armed security, according to royal experts speaking to Fox News Digital. This speculation gains traction amid questions about whether the Duchess of Sussex will join Prince Harry at the Invictus Games in Birmingham this summer.
Prince Harry is anticipated to be present at the upcoming Invictus Games celebrations marking a year until the event kicks off, and there is hope that Meghan will accompany him. However, an Archewell spokesperson informed Fox News Digital that such reports remain speculative, suggesting that no final travel arrangements have been confirmed for the mother of two.
Kinsey Schofield, the host of “Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered” on YouTube, expressed to Fox News Digital that if Meghan were to visit the U.K. under the current RAVEC protocol—which necessitates a 30-day notice for threat assessment—she believes both Meghan and Harry would receive armed security for the Invictus event.
Schofield further noted that recent headlines implying Meghan’s return depends on RAVEC reversing its decision to provide automatic security seem to be an attempt to sway the committee’s current threat analysis.
Lack of automatic armed protection a sticking point
Schofield also mentioned that while Prince Harry typically receives armed protection during his U.K. visits, the couple’s main issue lies in the absence of automatic security assurances. “They take issue with the need to request protection on a case-by-case basis, a situation that was clearly outlined when they decided to step back from their roles within the royal family,” she explained.
The decision to deny Harry full-time armed protection while in the U.K. could soon be reversed, with one insider telling the Mail on Sunday, “It’s now a formality. Sources at the Home Office have indicated that security is now nailed on for Harry.” People magazine also reported that “positive” considerations were being made by the governing body regarding the possible reversal, with a review currently underway.
Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner said, “I feel talks are underway to open the doors for Harry and Meghan to return to Britain as part of King Charles’ legacy to unite the family while he has the power and strength to do so.”
Turner added, “Meghan will want many assurances, especially about how she is treated and how she can bring her own individuality with her. Security is one of the biggest issues. I see encouraging signs that the heated moments of the past have cooled. I also believe Harry has asked King Charles to open the Invictus Games.”
Meghan typically accompanies Harry to Invictus events
People reported that Meghan, 44, typically accompanies her husband to support his games and has attended previous countdown events, including the one-year-to-go celebration in 2022.
Harry wants increased taxpayer-backed security for his family, which they lost after their royal exit.
Harry has been estranged from his family since he and Meghan stepped back as senior royals in 2020 and moved to California, citing intense media intrusion and a lack of palace support as reasons for their departure.
The couple has aired their grievances in interviews, documentaries, and Harry’s 2023 memoir, “Spare,” further straining his relationship with the royals.
