Oceanway Middle School’s principal announced on Tuesday that a teacher has been banned from working within Duval County’s public schools.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Authorities have charged a substitute teacher with criminal offenses after illegal drugs were discovered at a Jacksonville middle school, as confirmed by Duval County Public Schools.
In a communication sent to parents on Tuesday, the principal of Oceanway Middle School revealed that the incident took place on Thursday, January 15.
The substitute teacher, whose identity remains undisclosed, was allegedly discovered with the drugs in a staff-only area. This occurred before the teacher had entered a classroom setting, according to Principal Stansel, and there was reportedly no interaction with students.
“Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is our utmost priority, and I am thankful that no students were involved,” stated Stansel.
The teacher has since been arrested on multiple drug-related charges, according to the message.
The individual was employed by the district’s substitute teacher provider, ESS. Stansel said the district confirmed with ESS that the teacher will no longer be allowed to work in any Duval County public school.
First Coast News is working to confirm the teacher’s identity, as well as the detailed allegations.
