In Bristol, Virginia, a routine traffic stop has led to serious drug charges for two men. Local police have reported that this incident unfolded after officers pulled over a vehicle for traffic violations on Monday.
The Bristol Virginia Police Department (BVPD) explained that the vehicle initially caught an officer’s attention when it failed to stop at a stop sign and then abruptly halted in the middle of the road. This prompted the officer to conduct a traffic stop.
Upon stopping the vehicle, authorities identified the driver as Richard Campbell, 30, and the passenger as David Maye, 36. Alongside them was a female passenger whose details were not disclosed by the police.
As the stop progressed, officers noticed items associated with drug use in plain sight within the vehicle. This observation led to a more thorough investigation by the responding officers.
The subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a cache of suspected controlled substances, including what is believed to be fentanyl and methamphetamine. Additionally, the police discovered packaged marijuana, digital scales, packaging materials, and other drug paraphernalia.
Campbell was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule I or II substance. He was transported to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail facility in Abingdon and held on a $2,500 bond.
Maye was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule I or II substance, possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I or II substance and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Maye was also transported to the Abingdon facility and held without bond.
