Katie Bates Clark has broken her silence following her husband Travis Clark’s recent admission of infidelity.
Katie Bates speaks out on husband Travis Clark’s cheating confession: ‘Deeply hurt’
On Saturday, 24-year-old Travis took to social media to reveal that he had been unfaithful to his wife, with whom he has shared more than four years of marriage.
In a now-deleted Instagram Story posted on January 18, Travis confessed, “I was unfaithful to my wife. I had an affair and repeatedly broke her trust.”
His public admission came shortly after Katie revealed she had suffered a miscarriage. Now, the mother of two is opening up about the betrayal and hinting at how she plans to move forward.
“This has been an incredibly painful time for me and my family,” the 25-year-old Bringing Up Bates alum shared in a heartfelt Instagram post on January 20. “As many are aware, our marriage has been deeply wounded, and my trust has been shattered.”
“This has been an incredibly painful time for me and my family,” the Bringing Up Bates alum, 25, wrote in her January 20 Instagram post. “As many now know, our marriage has been deeply hurt and my trust has been broken.”
‘Bringing Up Bates’ star wants to ‘preserve’ her marriage
Katie went on to say that she was taking things “one day at a time” as she focused on healing and her children. She also shared that she supported Travis’ decision to speak out about his mistakes and “take accountability.”
The one-time UPtv personality added that she didn’t know what the future held for her marriage. But it sounds like divorce is on the table.
“We are working through this privately, seeking counsel both together and individually as we try to determine the best path forward for our family,” she wrote. “I am also being supported by legal counsel.”
“This is not a quick and easy process, and it is not one I am taking lightly,” Katie continued.
However, in her statement, Katie indicated that she hoped to reconcile with Travis.
“I do believe in God’s power to restore, and my heart’s desire is to preserve my marriage,” she wrote.
In his statement, Travis suggested that his marriage might be beyond repair.
“I am taking responsibility by getting help and doing the work to change and become a more honest and accountable man, regardless of outcome,” he wrote. “I ask for privacy and grace for Katie as she processes this in her own time.”
If Katie and Travis are considering divorce, that would be a major bombshell. Like Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar of 19 Kids and Counting fame, Katie’s parents, Gil and Kelly Jo Bates, are part of a strain of fundamentalist Christians who adhere to the idea that women should remain subservient to their husbands. In practice, that can mean divorce is seriously frowned upon and women are pressured to remain in marriages no matter how their husbands behave. Jim Bob and Michelle’s daughter-in-law Anna Duggar has infamously remained married to their eldest son, Josh Duggar, even though he is serving years in prison after being convicted of possessing material depicting child sexual abuse.
