Prue Leith Bids Farewell to 'Great British Baking Show': Embrace Change with Her Heartfelt Exit

Prue Leith, the cherished judge and host of “The Great British Baking Show,” has revealed her decision to depart from the popular program.

Taking to Instagram, Leith shared, “After gracing the show for nine series and evaluating over 400 challenges, I’ve chosen to step down from my role as a judge on The Great British Bake Off,” referencing the slightly altered title it holds in the UK.

Leith expressed her sentiments, stating, “Bake Off has been a wonderful chapter in my life over the past nine years. However, now seems like the ideal moment to withdraw (I am 86, after all!)” she added with a touch of humor.

The show has been a television staple for 16 seasons. Originally, the judging panel included Paul Hollywood, who continues to serve on the show, and Mary Berry, whom Leith succeeded in 2017.

Each episode features amateur bakers competing in three challenges – the signature bake, the technical challenge and the show-stopper. The show became known for its positive and uplifting tone, a contrast to more mean-spirited or harsher reality TV series.

Leith brought to the show her career’s worth of culinary insights, as well as her bold necklaces and a penchant for boozy bakes.

Before joining the beloved baking show, Leith opened a Michelin-starred restaurant, wrote a food column and presented other cooking shows on British television.

What will she spend her time on now? Leith wrote on Instagram that “there’s so much I’d like to do, not least spend summers enjoying my garden.”

She wished her replacement well: “Whoever joins the team, I’m sure they’ll love it as much as I have. I feel very lucky to have been part of it.”
