Ex-MSNBC star faces embarrassing accusations from former colleague

Allegations have surfaced against former MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd, centering on his purported animosity toward a fellow broadcaster during their tenure at the network. This accusation comes from Greta Van Susteren, now a host at Newsmax, who collaborated with Todd for a brief period in 2017.

On Tuesday, Van Susteren took to social media platform X to assert that Todd consistently refused to hand over to her show at the conclusion of his. She linked this behavior to personal dislike, suggesting that Todd’s popularity did not extend to her.

The commentary from Van Susteren, now 71, was prompted by a separate post from Todd, where he called for an investigation into ICE agents reportedly pulling a gun on an off-duty officer in Minnesota. This context sparked Van Susteren’s revelation about their strained professional relationship.

Van Susteren’s program, “For The Record,” aired after Todd’s “Meet the Press Daily.” Recounting her experience, she tweeted: “Phil Griffin, the former President of MSNBC, disclosed to me that you refused to do live transitions to my 6 p.m. show from your 5 p.m. slot because you were upset that MSNBC had hired me, and you did not like me.”

‘If you care about ICE’s credibility, you’d want an investigation. Because the allegation is chilling,’ Todd, 53, wrote as a caption.

Van Susteren – whose short-lived MSNBC show, For The Record, followed Todd’s Meet the Press Daily – replied: ‘Phil Griffin, the former President of MSNBC, told me that you refused to do live tosses to me from your 5pm MSNBC show to mine (at 6pm) because you were angry that MSNBC hired me and you didn’t like me.

‘As an aside, I never did anything to you.’

When contacted by the Daily Mail on Wednesday, Todd cast doubt on his ex-colleague’s claims.

‘I don’t recall anything like that, so I don’t have any comments to offer,’ he said.

As of writing, Van Susteren’s post has been viewed more than 300,000 times.

Griffin, meanwhile, left MSNBC in early 2021 and is now retired.

Todd left the network of his own accord in January 2025, after a successful 18 years.

He initially joined NBC News in 2007 as a political director, during which time he regularly appeared on MSNBC shows like Morning Joe and The Rachel Maddow Show to offer expertise.

He was named the network’s chief White House correspondent in 2008 and was promoted to helm Meet the Press in 2014.

He expanded the program the following year with an hour on MSNBC called ‘MTP Daily’ – the 5pm slot Van Susteren referred to.

She joined MSNBC from Fox News on January 9, 2017. She started her journalism career as a legal analyst for CNN in the early 90s.

Now a host for Newsmax, Van Susteren’s less than eight-month stint at MSNBC was plagued by poor ratings.

During contract renewal negotiations, she left the network by invoking the departure option in her contract.

‘For the Record with Greta’, meanwhile, was perpetually the lowest-rated program on the liberal news network in both total viewers and the key 25-54 demographic.

The show also appeared to be shedding viewers from Todd’s.

Despite a lead-in from Todd’s high-rated program, tens of thousands of viewers left only to return for Chris Matthews’ ‘Hardball’ after her program was over.

Today, Todd is an independent journalist. Van Susteren joined Newsmax in 2022. She is known for a hard-hitting, centrist-leaning approach to journalism.
