Mike Melody Biography – Mike Melody Wiki
Renowned antiques dealer Mike Melody has etched his name into the world of vintage treasures through both his expertise and his television appearances. Beginning his televised career in the early 1980s, Mike first graced screens alongside Jill Dando on ‘The Antiques Show’. His charming presence and deep knowledge quickly made him a staple in viewers’ homes. Over the years, he continued to captivate audiences on popular programs like ‘Going for a Song’, ‘Dickinson’s Real Deal’, and ‘Secret Dealers’.
Mike, along with his wife Margaret Melody, embarked on their journey into the antiques realm in the early 1970s. The couple officially founded their enterprise, Mike Melody Antiques, in 1977, operating from the scenic North of England. Their venture grew to include one of the largest export and retail antique shops in the region, known as Melody Antique Galleries in Chester, which thrived from 1977 until they decided to sell it in 2001. Though they declared retirement, their passion for antiques was unstoppable, and after only six months, Mike was back in action at major fairs.
Today, with over five decades of experience under his belt, Mike Melody continues to delight antique enthusiasts with his discerning eye for originality, vibrant color, and the unique patina of vintage pieces. His commitment to quality and authenticity is reflected in his membership with LAPADA, the largest professional trade association for art and antiques dealers in the UK, ensuring his selections meet the highest standards.

Mike Melody Family
Mike Melody and his wife, Margaret Melody, have a daughter, Victoria Melody, an award-winning performance artist and former Miss Brighton. Vic was Miss Brighton 2011 and 2012 [for her show Hair Peace which she performed at Brighton Dome].
Mike Melody Illness
In 2013, Mike Melody was diagnosed with a terminal illness – Motor Neurone Disease – and given five years to live. His daughter Victoria Melody was given the terrible responsibility of organising his funeral (complete with eulogies, a New Orleans jazz procession and a congregation dressed in Blackpool FC tangerine). A year later, however, doctors realised they had misdiagnosed him.
Victoria and Mike went ahead with the funeral anyway in the form of a father-daughter show, Ugly Chief, and Victoria went to Port Talbot to train as a funeral director. Ugly Chief plays out two funerals – the one Victoria planned and the one her dad really wanted. And Mike is guest of honour at both. As the show unfolds, it unpicks the complicated relationship with a parent whose opinion you don’t always agree with.
