Doomsday Trailer Rollout Was A Complete Failure

The anticipation of a looming catastrophe has been a recurring theme in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and “Avengers: Doomsday” is no exception. However, its promotional strategy of releasing four separate character trailers has not captured the cultural spotlight as Marvel Studios had likely anticipated. Our in-depth analysis reveals that this approach has missed the mark. To understand the missteps, you can watch the video by Looper above for a comprehensive breakdown.

While “Avengers: Doomsday” promises to be an epic cinematic event, various hurdles have caused its promotional efforts to lag. Nonetheless, there’s still hope that the film can generate excitement. The ensemble cast has sparked conversation, particularly with Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom, which is sure to draw audiences. Yet, following the lukewarm reception of the trailers, it remains to be seen how Marvel Studios will translate this intrigue into fan enthusiasm before the film’s release on December 18, 2026.

The trailers for “Avengers: Doomsday” function as four independent vignettes, each highlighting different characters either before or during the movie’s events. In the first trailer, viewers get a glimpse of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America (Chris Evans), in a peaceful, retired life with a new baby. The second trailer shifts focus to a somber Thor (Chris Hemsworth), devoid of the humor seen in “Thor: Love and Thunder.” The third trailer introduces the X-Men, concluding with an impressive optic blast from Cyclops (James Marsden). Lastly, the fourth teaser features Black Panther (Letitia Wright) and M’Baku (Winston Duke) encountering the Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).

Though these clips contain some intriguing moments, their overall meandering pace serves more to confirm the presence of these characters rather than unveil any substantial plot details. This might not hinder “Avengers: Doomsday” from making a significant impact at the 2026 box office, but for now, Looper’s video above provides insight into why the trailer strategy hasn’t quite hit the bullseye.

The Avengers: Doomsday trailers depict four very different MCU moments

Marvel’s “Avengers: Doomsday” trailers are effectively four disconnected snippets that depict various characters’ situations leading into the movie — or perhaps during it. The first trailer shows a seemingly retired version of Steve “Captain America” Rogers (Chris Evans) enjoying domestic life and a new baby. The second one focuses on a distraught Thor (Chris Hemsworth), who shows no sign of the comedic leanings of “Thor: Love and Thunder.” Trailer No. 3 throws the X-Men in the mix and ends with a cool Cyclops (James Marsden) optic blast moment. Finally, Black Panther (Letitia Wright) and M’Baku (Winston Duke) meet up with the Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) in the fourth teaser.

Though the quartet of clips does contain several cool moments, the overall leisurely pace is more about confirming that these particular characters and teams will appear in “Avengers: Doomsday” than revealing anything truly interesting about the film. This may ultimately do little to prevent “Avengers: Doomsday” from rocking the 2026 box office — but for now, watching Looper’s video above will reveal just why the “Avengers: Doomsday” trailer game hasn’t quite worked out.
