SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Groves High School girls basketball team celebrated a significant milestone last Friday, achieving their highest number of wins in 14 years.
With a decisive 68-41 victory over McIntosh County Academy, the Lady Rebels marked their 12th win of the season. This achievement mirrors the success attained by the 2011-2012 team. Currently, Groves boasts an impressive 12-5 record for the year.
In a competitive regional landscape, Groves finds itself tied for third place alongside Windsor Forest. Securing a spot among the top four teams in the upcoming regional tournament would see them advance to the playoffs, a feat they haven’t accomplished since the 2009-2010 season.
“I have two seniors, and one of them has experienced a season where we didn’t win any games,” shared head coach Jademonne Jones. “It’s incredibly meaningful for them to finish on a high note, and I’m determined to make that happen for them.”
Senior guard Aniyah Wright expressed her excitement, stating, “It feels amazing. We’re continuously making history. Defeating Liberty County was something we haven’t done in a long time. It’s going to be a memorable night.”
Groves and Windsor Forest meet Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Groves.
