(NEXSTAR) – The extensive measles outbreaks that began in 2025 are carrying over into 2026, impacting several states. As of Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 14 states have documented new instances of the virus since the start of the year.
So far this year, the CDC has identified 416 fresh measles cases, the majority of which are linked to last year’s outbreaks.
In the previous year, 2025, the CDC verified 2,255 measles cases in 44 states, marking the highest number since 1991, with nearly 50 distinct outbreaks reported.
