A video captures a tense moment as three men approach a house, only for gunfire to erupt, sending two of them fleeing in haste.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local Jacksonville resident feels lucky to be unharmed after her home security camera recorded gunshots during what authorities label as an attempted home invasion on the city’s Northside.

The alarming incident took place around 2 p.m. on Thursday, along Sixth Avenue in the Riverview neighborhood.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reports that three masked and armed intruders broke into a man’s residence and began shooting in what was believed to be a robbery attempt.

The resident responded by firing back, managing to wound one of the intruders, officials confirmed.

Both the homeowner and that suspect were taken to the hospital with injuries. Two other suspects ran from the scene and remain on the run.

Video shared with First Coast News by a neighbor captured the moments before and after the shooting. In the clip, three men can be seen approaching a home before dozens of gunshots ring out.

“That was too close,” the neighbor said. “That was real close. The gunshots woke me up out of my sleep.”

She told First Coast News she had left her front door unlocked just moments before the gunfire started.

“At that time my door was unlocked. They could’ve came in, but they didn’t. Thank God for that,” she said.

The neighbor says the close call left her shaken, calling it a reminder that “crime can happen anywhere.”

“It was just an eye opener,” she said. “These kids these days, they have no regard for life.”

She also shared a message for the suspects still on the run.

“They need some guidance. They need help. They need somebody to show them the right way. That’s not the way to go.”

JSO believes the incident was isolated. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office or call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
