A vehicle unexpectedly breached the airport entrance, crashing into the United Airlines check-in area.
DETROIT — On Friday evening, a car unexpectedly smashed through the glass doors and collided with a ticket counter at Detroit Metro Airport, as reported by news outlets.
The incident occurred at the McNamara Terminal, near the Delta Airlines check-in counters, around 8 p.m. ET, according to CBS News.
The blue sedan, featuring four doors, barreled through the terminal entrance, scattering glass and debris throughout the check-in area before finally coming to a halt against the ticket counter.
The Associated Press noted that the WCAA Fire Department attended to six individuals at the scene.
Video posted on social media showed a blue, four-door sedan stopped, with its hood and truck popped open, in front of Delta Air Lines counters in what appeared to be a departure lobby.
Glass and other debris lay strewn on the ground at the entrance, and yellow police tape cordoned off the scene.
Delta told CBS News the crash didn’t impact flights.
It’s unclear how many people were in the car at the time of the crash, but video posted to social media showed at least one man being detained by airport security. TMZ reported the driver got out of the car with his hands up.
The driver’s name was not immediately released. It’s unclear what caused the crash. No other information is available at this time and an investigation is ongoing.
