Amidst the Trump administration’s intensified immigration policies, a shooting incident occurred, as confirmed by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The specific circumstances of the shooting remain unclear at this time.

Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, informed the Associated Press via text message that the individual involved was armed with a firearm and two magazines. She noted that the situation was “evolving.”

The incident took place against the backdrop of ongoing daily protests in the Twin Cities, sparked by the January 7 shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good, who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer while in her car. The latest shooting incident occurred just over a mile from where Good lost her life.

Governor Walz, a member of the Democratic Party, stated on social media that he had communicated with the White House following the incident. He called on President Donald Trump to halt what the Department of Homeland Security has described as its most extensive immigration enforcement operation to date.

“Remove the thousands of violent, untrained officers from Minnesota immediately,” Walz demanded in a post on X.

DHS distributed a photo of a handgun they said was on the person who was shot.

After the shooting, an angry crowd gathered and screamed profanities at federal officers, calling them “cowards” and telling them to go home. One officer responded mockingly as he walked away, telling them: “Boo hoo.” Agents elsewhere shoved a yelling protester into a car.

The intersection where the shooting has been blocked off, and Border Patrol agents are on the scene wielding batons.

The shooting happened a day after thousands of demonstrators protesting the crackdown on immigrants crowded the city’s streets in frigid weather, calling for federal law enforcement to leave.
