Storm Team 3: Staying cool today ahead of rain tonight

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The day unfolds with overcast skies and a brisk breeze, though a slight uptick in warmth is expected compared to yesterday. Temperatures will climb to the upper 50s and lower 60s. Morning hours may witness light showers, particularly north of I-16, where freezing drizzle could occur as temperatures hover at or below the freezing mark early on. For Screven and Hampton Counties, a Winter Weather Advisory is in place until 1 p.m.

Once the morning showers pass, the day should remain mostly dry. However, a cold front is set to arrive this evening and into the night, ushering in heavier rain bands and potentially a few thunderstorms from late tonight into the early hours of tomorrow. There’s a slight chance these storms could intensify, bringing strong winds and a limited risk of isolated tornadoes.

As the front moves offshore by tomorrow afternoon, drier conditions will prevail, leading to a gradual clearing of clouds and cooler temperatures, with highs returning to the 50s. A significant drop in temperature is expected tomorrow night, with lows plunging into the lower 20s across the area. Starting Tuesday, daytime highs will only make it to the mid to upper 40s, and this chilly trend, characterized by lows in the 20s and highs in the 40s, is likely to persist throughout the workweek.
