Freddie Stroma has become a familiar face to today’s viewers, thanks to his roles as Prince Friedrich in “Bridgerton” and Adrian Chase/Vigilante in “Peacemaker.” However, many may remember him from an earlier role as Cormac McLaggen, a Gryffindor student in the “Harry Potter” series. Though Stroma joined the franchise in the sixth film, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” his character played a pivotal part in a love triangle involving the well-known Golden Trio.
Cormac McLaggen is depicted as a self-assured Quidditch player vying with Ron Weasley for the Keeper position on the Gryffindor team. As team captain, Harry Potter faces a tough decision, since McLaggen’s confidence is matched by his talent. However, Hermione Granger intervenes by casting a Confundus Charm on McLaggen, causing him to falter during tryouts and ensuring Ron secures the spot. McLaggen also attempts to woo Hermione, who takes him to Slughorn’s Christmas party to provoke Ron, who is dating Lavender Brown. Despite his efforts, McLaggen’s self-absorption prevents any real romance with Hermione, who remains uninterested.
Stroma isn’t the only “Harry Potter” alum in “Bridgerton.” Regé-Jean Page, who captivated audiences as Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, in the first season, had a minor role in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.” He appeared as a wedding guest at Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour’s ceremony, standing near Hermione Granger and Molly Weasley when a Patronus message disrupts the festivities with news of the Ministry of Magic’s fall.
Another “Harry Potter” veteran, Katie Leung, known for her role as Cho Chang starting from “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” will join “Bridgerton” in its fourth season. She is set to portray Lady Araminta Gun, the stepmother to Sophie, the new leading lady and Benedict Bridgerton’s love interest in a “Cinderella”-inspired storyline. With two more seasons of “Bridgerton” on the horizon, it’s possible we’ll see even more actors transitioning from the magical world of Hogwarts to the elegant society of the Ton.

Freddie Stroma isn’t the only “Harry Potter” cast member to join the “Bridgerton” ensemble. Regé-Jean Page, known for playing Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings in the first season, is an extra in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1,” appearing as a guest at Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour’s wedding. He even stands next to Hermione Granger and Molly Weasley when the important Patronus message informing everyone of the fall of the Ministry of Magic appears in the middle of the celebration.
Katie Leung, who portrays Cho Chang starting in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” joins “Bridgerton” in Season 4 as Lady Araminta Gun, stepmother to new leading lady and love interest of Benedict Bridgerton, Sophie. Their love story is a “Cinderella” retelling, which means Leung is taking on a drastically different role than the shy Cho. With two more seasons of “Bridgerton” on the way, there’s always the possibility additional actors will make the jump from the wizarding world to the Ton.
