When Fire Force first appeared in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine back in 2015, readers were introduced to the fiery adventures of Shinra Kusakabe. Over the years, this captivating series unfolded across 304 chapters, eventually being compiled into 34 tankobon volumes before its thrilling conclusion in February 2022. Meanwhile, the anime adaptation of Fire Force continues to captivate audiences, culminating in a three-season run. The final season is split into two parts: the first aired in April 2025, and the eagerly awaited second part is set to premiere in January 2026.
In the universe of Fire Force, fire acts as both weapon and defense. Characters wield an impressive array of pyrotechnic powers, from explosive outbursts to intricate manipulations, including the enigmatic Adolla-linked abilities that challenge the very essence of reality. As the series approaches its fiery climax, fans engage in fervent debates over which characters stand supreme in this blaze-filled narrative.
Among the most intriguing figures in Fire Force is Sister Sumire, a woman whose serene facade conceals a tumultuous secret. For many years, she posed as a benevolent nun at St. Raffles Convent, caring for children with a seemingly gentle touch. Yet behind her nurturing exterior lay a profound contempt for mankind. As the Seventh Pillar of the Evangelist, Sumire orchestrated sinister experiments to mold other Pillars, driven by her hidden ambitions. The ultimate betrayal came when she ignited the convent in a devastating fire, sacrificing those she once vowed to care for, all in the name of furthering the Evangelist’s sinister objectives.
Sister Sumire Is The Nun Who Shakes the World
Sister Sumire is a captivating enigma in Fire Force. For decades, she played the role of a gentle nun, nurturing children at St. Raffles Convent. However, her kind appearance masked a deep disdain for humanity. As the Seventh Pillar of the Evangelist, beneath her calm exterior hid a ruthless mastermind, shaping other Pillars through shadowy experiments. In a shocking twist, Sumire then burned the convent blaze, sacrificing many she once promised to protect to advance the Evangelist’s dark agenda.
Sumire wields a weapon unlike any other: vibration. By connecting the tremors from her movements, she unleashes shockwaves strong enough to fracture the earth. Amplified through her Adolla connection, these vibrations resonate across Tokyo, showcasing a level of destruction few can rival. Whether Sumire is shaking the earth or pulling strings from the dark, she earns her spot among Fire Force’s fiercest foes.
Arthur Boyle Turns Delusion into Power
Arthur Boyle might seem like Fire Force’s court clown, daydreaming of bravery and loyalty. Yet, beneath Arthur’s unusual facade lies a tough warrior. As a Third Generation pyrokinetic, Arthur wields plasma like magic, forging a magnificent sword he dubs Excalibur. With one swing, Arthur can transform wild imagination into deadly art, cutting through the fiercest enemies. This makes it clear that Arthur’s unique view hides remarkable skill that lets him compete with the best in the grand arena of combat.
Arthur’s greatest strength lies in his unwavering belief in his own legend. When cloaked in his knightly role, Arthur’s power, speed, and defense soar. This mental state empowers him, turning him into Company 8’s frontline steamroller who faces high-level threats head-on, even enduring Benimaru’s grueling training with grit. While Arthur’s personality leans toward the eccentric, his resolve remains rock-solid, what starts as a delusion soon solidifying into unwavering conviction. In Fire Force, this conviction shapes Arthur Boyle into a warrior who deserves a place in the annals of legend.
Dragon Evolves as the Unbreakable Avatar of Destruction
Dragon is the daunting commander of the White Clad’s Destroyers. When he strides onto the scene, he instantly marks himself as one of Fire Force‘s most formidable adversaries. In his encounter with Company 8, it’s crystal clear that traditional attacks are powerless against his might. In the legendary duel with Arthur, Dragon proves he is a true powerhouse. Arthur Boyle, a top-tier fighter, emerges battered, while Dragon stands unharmed.
Dragon thrives on pure might and solid defense. His signature move, Dragon Scales, wraps him in tough armor making blades and arrows useless. Moreover, true to his name, Dragon unleashes a fiery breath that destroys everything in its wake. Adding to his ferocity, Dragon intensifies his presence through Infernalization, transforming into a monstrous titan. This remarkable adaptability transforms Dragon into a nightmare during prolonged battles, his strong confidence and dark aura setting him apart from others.
Joker Stands as Fire Force’s Deadliest Wild Card
Joker leaps into Fire Force as the anti-heroes wild card, driven not by justice, but by a fiery obsession for truth. First appearing as a villain, Joker’s acrobatic tact and razor-sharp instincts immediately captivate. Later, Joker’s true story emerges: a lone wolf, shaped by harsh training in the secretive Holy Sol’s Shadow. This underground assassin group forged Joker into a lethal weapon from a tender age.
Beneath his chaotic exterior, Joker is a cornerstone of strength, able to keep up with elite fighters and hold his ground against giants like Shō Kusakabe. On the assault of the Holy Sol Temple, Joker teams up with Benimaru, proving invaluable. Years of assassination training provide him with mastery of close-quarters combat, making Joker’s movements a blur as he merges speed and precision with effortless flair. Additionally, Joker’s card-themed pyrokinetic flair is both stylish and sinister as flames convert into razor-sharp suits, striking with surprising ferocity.
Haumea is Fire Force’s Most Dangerous Puppeteer
Haumea may not be the ultimate villain, but she certainly chills the bones. As a Third Generation pyrokinetic, she wields electricity with alarming accuracy. Devoted wholly to the Evangelist’s sinister cause, her loyalty is as shocking as her powers. Haumea created some of the series’ darkest moments from childhood, skillfully manipulating others without a second thought. This cold calculation transforms Haumea into a far more terrifying foe than a mere brute.
Haumea’s signature skill, Guerilla Radio, is a shocking spectacle. With it, she skillfully manipulates electrical signals within her enemies’ nervous systems. This grants her absolute sway over her victims’ very movements, paralyzing foes with just a thought and overriding their wills. Few escape Haumea’s electric grasp, finding themselves puppets helpless against her command.
Charon Stands as Evangelist’s Unbreakable Shield
One of the White Clad’s fierce warriors, Charon is introduced as Haumea’s firm guardian. As a second-generation pyrokinetic, his very presence tilts the battlefield’s scales. Though Charon can’t raise flames directly, with skillful physical gestures, he transforms absorbed energy into devastating assaults. Charon’s most terrifying attribute is his durability. Even against elite fighters like Shinra and Arthur, Charon endures a barrage of blows, barely even recoiling.
Worse, Charon’s incredible resilience pairs with jaw-dropping strength. As a towering mass of muscle, Charon delivers crushing punches and owns close-quarters combat like a genius. What makes battling Charon utterly hopeless is his relentless power scaling. Each blow Charon endures ignites a surge within him, transforming pain into strength and marking him as one of Fire Force‘s most fearsome titans.
Leonard Burns Becomes a Living Furnace
Leonard Burns might not have flashy powers like time manipulation or phasing but his sheer strength makes him one of Fire Force’s toughest fighters. As the captain of Special Fire Force Company 1, Leonard shines in close combat, overpowering enemies with strength and skill. As a fiery veteran and Third Generation pyrokinetic, Leonard Burns knows no fear.
Burns’ Ignition Ability, Voltage Nova, is what truly sets him apart. This ability burns the flames within Leonard’s body, acting like a furnace to power his additional physical abilities. When faced with pyrokinetic attacks, Burns raises heat barriers in defense. As battles extend, Burns’ strength, durability, and agility only grow hotter.
Sho Kusakabe Can Stop Time & Go Toe-to-Toe With the Holy Sol Temple’s Strongest Enemies
Sho Kusakabe stands as one of Fire Force’s most tragic and terrifying figures. From the very start, Sho’s life was full of disasters. His Adolla Burst destroyed his childhood home and awakened Shinra’s dormant powers. Worse, in that storm of chaos, their mother transformed into a Demon Infernal. Kidnapped by the Evangelist, Sho then ended up with the White-Clad. There, Sho changed into the cold, tough leader of the Knights of the Ashen Flame.
As Shinra’s long-lost younger brother, Sho’s true danger lies in his Third Generation pyrokinetic ability, Severed Universe. By dramatically decelerating time, Sho moves with almost supernatural swiftness that defies sight. Opponents are left whirling, unable to react to Sho’s blinding speed. But this amazing skill has a high cost: Sho’s body turns colder as time goes on. Yet, Sho seldom needs more than a heartbeat to harm enemies with his swift, precise katana strikes.
Shinra Kusakabe Is the Hero Who Outran Light
While protagonist Shinra Kusakabe hasn’t yet eclipsed all the legendary figures of his world, his immense potential secures him a spot among the strongest Fire Force characters. As a wielder of the Adolla Burst, Shinra stands on a plane far above average pyrokinetics. Shinra’s Ignition Ability, Devil’s Footprints, sparks flames from his feet, granting him flight, explosive speed, and aerial kicks that devastate foes.
For Shinra, speed is the crown jewel of his arsenal. In a fierce clash with his brother Sho, Shinra surpassed the speed of light, marking one of Fire Force’s most impressive feats. From rookie to rising star, Shinra grows immensely in Special Fire Force Company 8, eventually even injuring and defeating Captain Leonard Burns.
Benimaru Shinmon Stands As the Strongest Fire Force Character
Sitting atop the hierarchy of the Special Fire Force is Benimaru Shinmon, a Captain like no other. His strength stems from his unique blend of Second and Third Generation pyrokinetics, which allows Benimaru to produce flames and control them with an artistry that makes his combat approach unmatched. This power burst forth when Benimaru Shinmon effortlessly crushed Company 8, believing they were transforming civilians into Infernals.
Benimaru Shinmon’s legendary Crimson Moon technique cements his place as the strongest character in Fire Force. During his battle against a Demon Infernal in Asakusa, Benimaru defeated the creature midair in a massive explosion that stained the sky red and gave the moon a demonic glow, and during his fight with his former mentor, Hibachi Shinmon, he even changed the visual appearance of the seas and the moon.
