LUZT, Fla. (WFLA)—In an unusual series of events, the driver of a Cybertruck found himself in police custody after colliding with a pedestrian signal, attempting to escape the scene, and later attacking his spouse, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Authorities responded to an incident early Sunday morning at approximately 12:02 a.m., involving a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck and a pedestrian signal at the junction of SR-54 and Meadowbrook Drive.
The Florida Highway Patrol detailed that the Cybertruck was heading east on SR-54. As the driver tried to execute a left turn to proceed north on Meadowbrook Drive, they misjudged the turn, resulting in a collision with the pedestrian signal.
Following the crash, the driver attempted to evade responsibility by leaving the scene. However, the vehicle eventually stalled in the vicinity of Mentmore Boulevard and Prairie Iris Drive.
An observant bystander witnessed the incident, decided to track the fleeing vehicle, and promptly alerted emergency services by dialing 911.
According to FHP, while waiting for law enforcement to arrive, the driver, a 37-year-old man, assaulted the passenger, his wife, while their two children were inside the vehicle.
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office arrived, and the driver began to resist before attempting to flee on foot.
Deputies deployed a taser effectively, after which the driver was taken into custody, FHP said.
After troopers conducted a crash investigation, the driver was charged with DUI, DUI with property damage, refusal to submit, child neglect for operating a vehicle under the influence with minors present, hit-and-run with property damage, and careless driving.
PSO additionally charged the driver with domestic violence and other unrelated offenses.
