The Jacksonville Beach Police Department reported that a man sustained a gunshot wound from close proximity.
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — Early Monday morning, a man found himself in critical but stable condition following a shotgun incident in Jacksonville Beach. This information was confirmed by the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.
Chief Gene Smith detailed that officers were dispatched to a residence on the 900 block of 4th Avenue at approximately 12:16 a.m. in response to reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered the man with a visible gunshot injury to his abdomen, lying on the ground outside the home.
According to Smith, the individual had been shot once at close range with a shotgun. Officers provided immediate medical assistance until paramedics arrived and transported him to Memorial Hospital, Smith added.
Detectives reportedly interviewed a male and female who were found inside the home. Smith said both were “uncooperative and/or claimed they had no information.” The female was taken to another location by officers and released, Smith said, while the male was taken into custody for an outstanding arrest warrant.
Smith said detectives also served a search warrant on the home and found a shotgun.
According to Smith, the man who was found shot refused to give police his name and any information about what happened.
As of Tuesday, Jan. 27, JBPD said no further information is available at this time. The incident remains under active investigation.
