In a startling event, a Waymo vehicle lost control and crashed into multiple parked cars while descending a hill in Echo Park, narrowly avoiding two pedestrians, as revealed by video footage.

The incident occurred late Sunday morning at around 11 a.m. on Lilac Place, close to Dodger Stadium. A doorbell camera captured the moment when the car, operated manually, accelerated down the steep, narrow road and collided with several parked vehicles, according to KTLA.

Jorge Donantonio reported that his mother and brother were outside and nearly caught in the mishap.

“My brother managed to push my mom out of the car’s path just in time,” he shared. “Thankfully, they’re unharmed.”

Donantonio added that both his neighbor’s vehicle and his mother’s car sustained damage in the incident.

“You can see from the video — the Waymo lost control down the street and it just happened to hit my mama’s car,” he told the network.

No riders were inside the Waymo at the time of the crash.

The car was being driven manually by a specialist, the company told KTLA.

He was not injured.

“The gentleman — it was a Waymo engineering car — so they went over to check on him. He was OK,” Donantonio said. “They checked [my mother] out too. She was OK — high blood pressure, little stuff like that — but totally fine.”

Donantonio said his one-way street is used to traffic from Dodger Stadium events – and that Waymos have crashed there before.
