Lawyer says NY AG fired her for opposing puberty blockers for kids

An attorney, who identifies as a lesbian, claims she was dismissed by New York Attorney General Letitia James after voicing her concerns over the use of puberty blockers and gender transition surgeries for minors.

Glenna Goldis, known for her progressive stance as a public-interest lawyer, was removed from her position at the attorney general’s consumer frauds bureau on January 22. The dismissal followed accusations of participating in what was described as ‘disruptive public speech,’ according to a report by The Free Press.

Goldis has stated that her superiors cautioned her about continuing to express views that conflicted with Attorney General James’s firm support for pediatric gender medicine. They warned that persistent dissent could lead to her termination.

Attorney General James, along with a group of 13 other attorneys general, had previously supported safeguarding access to gender-affirming care, countering the policies of the Trump administration.

On January 28, 2025, an executive order was enacted, declaring that the United States would cease to ‘fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another.’ In response, the coalition of attorneys general criticized the order in a February statement, labeling it as ‘wrong’ and asserting that such surgeries are ‘lifesaving.’

But, Goldis said she knew her boss’s statement was not true and, as a lesbian, she cares passionately about the safety of gender nonconforming youth.

She claimed that James’s agency attorneys struggled to explain why her blogs, essays, and public speaking events, were ‘problematic’.

Goldis said that attorneys pointed to a line from one of her blog posts that justified their claims: ‘When the general counsel finally identified an objectionable line in my blog, it was the statement describing the holding in US v. Skrmetti (which, she stated, bans PGM and is not considered discriminatory by the court).’

‘She wrote that it contradicted James’s legal position.’

Goldis said she became concerned about the issues after hearing a lesbian detransitioner on a podcast explain the disturbing side effects she suffered, such as vaginal atrophy caused by taking testosterone and nerve damage from her double mastectomy. A double mastectomy is the removal of one or both breasts.

Goldis highlighted some of the hypocrisies of James, who claims to champion the LGBTQ community in a post to social media: ‘I tried to explain to NYAG officials that PGM, by its nature, targets children who defy sexed norms – whom studies show are more likely to be gay when they grow up.’

Goldis stated that PGM can reportedly lead to sexual dysfunction, chronic genital pain, and incontinence, among other possible side effects. She said no one in authority at NYAG showed interest in the concerns that PGM may be homophobic.

Goldis said if the Attorney General truly cared about LGBTQ youth, she would research ‘gender’ drugs and what is known about their risks and benefits.

Additionally, she added that James’s pro-position on PGM was echoed around the office.

Goldis claimed that the agency's attorneys struggled to explain why her blogs, essays, public speaking events, and panels were 'problematic' and warned her that if she kept sharing her views she would be terminated

Goldis said a colleague allegedly called girls who oppose biological males in women’s sports ‘anti-trans.’

When she went to speak with her co-worker about his claim and to inform him about the number of boys who had recently won state titles in girls’ sports, she was threatened.

‘If you say one more word on this subject, I’m calling HR,’ Goldis recalled her coworker saying.

Goldis noted online that James and officials treated her as a persistent critic.

Despite her firing, she noted that she was honored to work in the consumer fraud bureau; however, she once again disputed the claim that she engaged in ‘disruptive public speech.’

Goldis wrote, ‘I haven’t disrupted the Democratic elite’s commitment to PGM providers, but I’m just getting started.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to the office of Attorney General Letitia James for comment.
