THOMSON, Ga () Christan Rosier’s journey into the realm of special education began unexpectedly during her high school years.

“As a student at THS, I initially explored Health Occupations but soon discovered that nursing wasn’t my calling,” Rosier reflects. “This realization opened the door to an invaluable opportunity to work in the Special Education classroom at our school.”

For Rosier, each day presents a fresh chance to delve into lesson plans designed to equip students with skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

“Currently, we’re tackling scatter plots, lines of best fit, and the art of interpreting graphs,” she explains. “By the end of the lesson, students will be adept at identifying the maximum and minimum points on their graphs.”

Rosier is quick to acknowledge that crafting such a dynamic learning environment is very much a team effort.

“There’s Miss Edwards, there’s also Miss Gracie. They’re with us for their whole high school career.”

“We have goals for each student that we work with. And those goals are based off what their level is. But we also want to exceed beyond that. And they have to have, and we want to give them access to high school standards.”

Mrs. Rosier’s family is a constant source of strength for her.

“This has been a really hard year for us, with our family with losing my dad. And so it’s been a big thing just to see my family step up and support me, at work but also at home with little ones. Family is a big deal to me and it’s also how I connect with my students. I want to build a relationship with their families.”

And those relationships will lead to lots of success here on campus, and in the real world.

“I want to see them being productive, and that’s different for each student,” she says. “But being able to be immersed in their community, whether that’s through workplace learning and through centers like day programs, and not just sitting at home, but feeling like they have a purpose and a goal.”
