Dashcam footage has captured a dramatic scene where a 17-year-old behind the wheel of a stolen SUV sped through a residential area in Georgia before crashing and flipping the vehicle during a high-speed chase with deputies. The pursuit reached speeds of up to 115 mph.

In a video released by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the teenager can be seen ignoring deputies’ attempts to pull him over. The chase took him speeding along busy roads and even into the path of oncoming traffic.

The incident began when deputies were notified about a stolen vehicle originating from Newnan, Georgia, located roughly 40 miles southwest of Atlanta. This alert came shortly before 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday. With the vehicle’s description in mind, Lt. Josh Akin began his search for the red SUV.

The situation escalated when the red SUV sped past Lt. Akin and Deputy Sheriff Nelson on Antioch Road. Despite efforts to initiate a traffic stop, the driver chose to flee at high speed, prompting the intense pursuit.

The chase concluded dramatically near Brooks Woolsey Road, where the stolen SUV rolled over. Deputies arrested the 17-year-old driver, who had been reported missing from Newnan, according to police reports. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department released this information following the arrest.

Dashcam video shows the stolen SUV swerving into oncoming traffic and hitting speeds over 115 mph on narrow, winding roads.

Recognizing the “extreme risk” to the public, deputies said they were on the verge of calling off the pursuit just as the vehicle lost control and overturned.

After the crash, video shows deputies surrounding the overturned vehicle with guns drawn and ordering the driver to put his hands up before taking him into custody.

Authorities arrested 17-year-old Taylor Simpson following the crash. Simpson had been reported missing by the Newnan Police Department. The teen was removed from the vehicle and did not suffer major injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

Bond was set at $650 for each of six traffic charges, $1,300 for giving a false name to an officer and $1,300 for obstruction of an officer, totaling $6,500. He is being held in the Fayette County Jail without bond.
