SAVANNAH, Ga. — In a recent announcement, officials hailed 2025 as the second busiest year on record for Georgia Ports, marking a significant milestone in the state’s maritime industry.

Throughout the year, Georgia Ports managed nearly 5.7 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of cargo, a 2.6% increase from the previous year’s figures, according to a spokesperson from the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA).

This accomplishment places 2025 just behind 2022, when approximately 5.9 million TEUs passed through the Port of Savannah’s facilities, as noted by GPA President and CEO Griff Lynch.

During this bustling year, the ports accommodated 1,669 container ships, with each vessel handling an average of 1,878 containers in transit.

In addition to these impressive statistics, the Port of Savannah distinguishes itself by offering 39 weekly container services to international destinations, more than any other port along the South Atlantic or Gulf Coasts, according to officials.

“The Ports of Savannah and Brunswick have been critical to Georgia’s ability to attract new jobs and investment, connecting manufacturers with markets around the world,” said Gov. Brian Kemp.  “This new highwater mark is just the latest reminder that these economic engines remain essential to our status as the No. 1 state for business, and I want to thank the hardworking longshoremen and the great team at the Georgia Ports Authority for making this possible.”

In 2025, the Port of Savannah handled a record 545,214 containers by rail, the fifth straight year over half a million, officials said. The port also saw 14,000-16,000 truck moves daily during as regular work week.
