Brand New Day's Rumored Villain List Has Us Worried

Is it possible for fans of comic book movies to reach a saturation point? Marvel aficionados might soon ponder this as rumors swirl around “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and its potential villainous overload. Curious about the lineup that could be awaiting viewers? Watch our video above to uncover all the insights.

We have a solid grasp of who some of the film’s main adversaries might be. Behind-the-scenes footage released by Sony reveals logos tied to the Inner Demons, a gang associated with Mr. Negative. Marvin Jones III, reprising his role as mobster Tombstone—a character he voiced in “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”—joins the cast. This makes him one of several actors to traverse both the animated and live-action Marvel realms. With these factions in play, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) might find himself entangled in a street conflict. And let’s not forget, Michael Mando’s Scorpion is also set to return.

This lineup already hints at a villain-heavy spectacle, and that’s not even counting the unconfirmed baddies whispered about in the rumor mill. It’s possible that some may appear in a montage that updates us on Spidey’s recent exploits. Nonetheless, it seems increasingly likely that the upcoming “Spider-Man” installment will be packed to the gills with antagonists.

The idea of a villain-crammed “Spider-Man” movie isn’t entirely new. Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 3” set the precedent with Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Venom (Topher Grace), and the Green Goblin (James Franco) all vying for screen time. Similarly, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” with Andrew Garfield brought Electro (Jamie Foxx), the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan), and Rhino (Paul Giamatti) into the mix.

The pinnacle of these villain-laden entries is undoubtedly “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which features a roster of foes from every “Spider-Man” film universe, including Dr. Octopus (Alfred Molina), Lizard (Rhys Ifans), and Willem Dafoe’s iconic Green Goblin. Now, “Brand New Day” seems poised to outdo them all. However, there’s a concern—overcrowding the narrative with too many villains might lead to a lackluster experience. For a deeper dive into this potential villain extravaganza, remember to view Looper’s video above.

Is Brand New Day trying to top No Way Home by including even more villains?

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” wouldn’t be breaking any new ground if it included a whole lot of antagonists. Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 3” infamously started this trend, with Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Venom (Topher Grace), and the Green Goblin (James Franco) sharing the screen. Over in the Andrew Garfield continuity, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” had Electro (Jamie Foxx), the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan), and Rhino (Paul Giamatti) all in one film.

The king of these jam-packed Spidey movies is “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which teems with evil. Villains from every “Spider-Man” movie universe show up, including Dr. Octopus (Alfred Molina), Lizard (Rhys Ifans), and Willem Dafoe’s version of the Green Goblin, to name but a few. It seems like “Brand New Day” is going to try and top all of those, and that has us worried — if the film tries to squeeze in too many bad guys it might end up falling flat. Remember to check out Looper’s video above for everything we know about this potential villain fest.
