An elderly man and his dog were tragically killed by a Maserati driver in a California neighborhood, who then fled the scene with the damaged vehicle.

Eighty-year-old Andriy Korshunov and his Rottweiler lost their lives during a late-night stroll in Sherman Oaks on Tuesday. The incident involved an unknown driver who struck them in a hit-and-run and abandoned the luxury car just a few blocks away, reported KTLA News.

Korshunov was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His dog was later found deceased under a nearby parked vehicle.

Authorities have yet to make any arrests and are offering a $50,000 reward for any information leading to the driver’s identification, arrest, and conviction, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The fatal accident took place around 11:30 p.m. on the 4400 block of Woodman Avenue, near Korshunov’s residence.

As they walked near the intersection of Moorpark Street in the bicycle lane, a silver sports car heading northbound struck the victim and his dog, killing the Rottweiler, which was found beneath a parked car at the curb.

It remains unclear whether the pair were crossing the street at the time of the fatal crash or if the Maserati had mounted the curb before striking them.

The Los Angeles Police and Fire Departments responded to reports of the hit-and-run, immediately performing CPR on Korshunov at the scene as family members cried nearby.

The victim was identified by his daughter, who said he had come to the United States a few years ago after surviving the war in Ukraine, according to KTLA 5.

Firefighters rushed Korshunov to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries shortly afterward, while authorities launched an investigation.

Police determined that the driver stopped for a moment after hitting the man and his dog but remained inside the luxury vehicle, as reported by the outlet.

The driver then continued north without stopping and eventually abandoned the Maserati against a curb in the surrounding neighborhood.

Investigators were told that the four-door car contained passengers as well as the driver, as reported by the LA Times.

Witnesses were also able to photograph the suspect’s vehicle when the car briefly stopped and provided authorities with a description, including the front-end and windshield damage from the collision.

Officers ultimately tracked down the Maserati several blocks away and discovered the extensive front-end damage, including missing license plates on both ends.

The busted vehicle was taken into police custody, but investigators have been unable to find any California registration and believe it may have been registered out of state at some point, according to the outlet.

The Maserati involved was not stolen, police revealed, but the driver has still not been located, NBC 4 News reported.

Investigators are now examining the Maserati for DNA and fingerprint evidence to identify the driver involved in the deadly collision, according to Fox 11 News.

Officers also started canvassing the neighborhood for doorbell and business surveillance footage that may have captured the hit-and-run, including the moment the suspect abandoned the sports car.

The investigation remains active, with authorities urging anyone who has information about the crash or the driver to reach out to the LAPD Valley Traffic Division.

Authorities said anonymous tips regarding the incident can also be submitted through LA Regional Crime Stoppers.
