Inset: Keon Harris (McHenry County Sheriff’s Office). Background: The Illinois Walmart where Keon Harris allegedly attacked a 15-year-old shopper, roughly a year before cops say he threatened to kill a man and his baby while on pretrial release for the Walmart attack (Google Maps).
In a disturbing turn of events, an Illinois teenager faces accusations of making violent threats against an infant, as revealed through a series of chilling Snapchat messages. Keon Harris, an 18-year-old from Woodstock, allegedly threatened the life of a child by sending menacing messages to the child’s father, suggesting horrific scenarios and forcing the father to “imagine your son leaking,” while also asking if he had “ever seen a baby die.” These unsettling threats were reportedly made while Harris was already out on pretrial release for a separate incident involving an assault on a 15-year-old at a Walmart.
Harris, who was charged earlier with felony battery related to a January 2025 altercation at a Walmart in Algonquin, is accused of escalating his threatening behavior through social media. Court documents and information from the Illinois-based news outlet, Shaw Local, detail how he allegedly used Snapchat to send a series of threats to a local man, targeting the man’s infant son.
The criminal complaint further reveals that Harris allegedly sent numerous videos and photos of himself brandishing what appeared to be an AR-15 style rifle while making these threats. The messages were aimed at intimidating the father and instilling fear for the safety of his child.
Harris was already under legal scrutiny for his involvement in what authorities describe as a violent assault at the Walmart, where he and another individual were charged with aggravated battery and mob action. Despite being on pretrial release, this latest series of accusations puts Harris back in the spotlight, raising serious concerns about his behavior and the potential risks he poses to the community.
Online court records show Harris was already on pretrial release from county jail after being charged with aggravated battery and mob action for the Walmart attack, which he allegedly committed with another person.
Police said Harris and another teen, Fernando Torres, 19, also of Woodstock, began striking the 15-year-old victim with “multiple” closed-fist punches to the face. The local news outlet Lake & McHenry County Scanner reports that the pair also stomped on the victim after he fell to the ground.
Police said the attack left the teen with “visible bruising and discoloration,” and he was observed bleeding from his mouth and nose, per Shaw Local.
Harris was due to appear in court Thursday for a status hearing to set a trial date for the alleged Walmart incident, but the hearing was rescheduled, according to court records. He’s due to appear for the threats case on Feb. 2 after being charged with phone harassment and disorderly conduct.
Lake & McHenry reports that Harris was released once again from custody because his alleged crimes are Class B and C misdemeanors, meaning prosecutors were unable to file a petition to block his release under Illinois’ SAFE-T Act, which abolished cash bail and changed pretrial release procedures in the state.
