Bluffton man sentenced to 12 years for selling fentanyl

BEAUFORT, S.C. — A Bluffton resident has been sentenced following a conviction on drug charges after selling fentanyl to a police informant, according to a statement from the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office on Thursday.

Danardis Quaviel Mitchell, aged 46, received a 12-year prison sentence after being found guilty of distributing fentanyl on Tuesday.

The arrest followed a November 2020 operation where an informant collaborating with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arranged to buy drugs from Mitchell on Hilton Head Island. The transaction occurred near Hilton Head Christian Academy, within a shopping center located on Matthews Drive.

The substance, initially sold as heroin in a baggie, was later identified as white powder.

Subsequent tests confirmed the substance to be fentanyl.

Mitchell was found not guilty of distributing fentanyl within a half mile of a school; The law requires the defendent be aware of their proximity to the school.

According to the solicitor’s office, “Mitchell’s criminal history dates to 2000 and includes convictions for conspiracy, possession with intent to distribute crack, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and three instances of driving under suspension.”
